Screen print? why not!

It has been a really fun and unexpected hobby and skill I have come to really enjoy the last couple months and I hope to continue it later into life. :)

This is a fun little side quest I have been on the last couple months since starting a screen printing class this year!

This is my first screen print ever! It was mainly a learning experience about how to use positive and negative space, blocking out shapes, and getting a feel of transparent versus opaque inks!

This design was definitely more out there for me in terms of aesthetics. I am a person who loves clean lines and flat color — autographic stencils (aka the painterly print) is everything but. Using solely wet materials and reacting to each previous layer to create the next layer. Definitely was a challenge for me, but I loved how it turned out! (also it’s my dog so how could I not love it!)

After the painterly print, I was thrilled to finally do a CMYK process! It is a lot cleaner and it actually gave me a new perspective of how my graphics could be printed in the future! I loved getting to mix my love of music (especially Ariana) with design for this print. :)

Finally, my pièce de résistance. My final project consisted of highlighting unapologetically queer artists on a series of vinyl records. This cast of artists (Chappell Roan, Billie Eilish, Conan Gray, and Orville Peck) all inspire me to push myself into uncomfortable situations and just be my authentic self.

This second print used a reductive process between layers to create this scene of what I call “Home”. Inspired by the work of Patrick Caulfield.
